THE PARISH SCHOOL BOARD OF VERNON PARISH LOUISIANA CONVENED IN SPECIAL CALLED SESSION, FEBRUARY 22, 2005, AT, 2:00 P.M., AT 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LA. PRESIDENT HAYMON CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Dr. Cynthia Gillespie, Secretary of the Board.

 

The meeting was opened in prayer by Robert Pynes.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mark Smith.

 

On motion of Ricky Reese, seconded by Willis Farris, the Board voted to approve a resolution ordering and calling special election to be held in Hornbeck School District No. 143 of the Parish of Vernon, Louisiana, to authorize the levy of a special tax therein, making application to the State Board Commission in connection therewith and providing for other matters in connection therewith.

 

The special election to authorize the levy of a special tax for the purpose of replacing gym bleachers at Hornbeck High School, will be placed on the April 23, 2005 ballot

 

Superintendent Gillespie reported on the recent reception at the Governor’s Mansion at which time she was presented flags to be given to Vernon Parish Schools for meeting or exceeding their accountability growth targets.  In addition to flags, our schools were given financial rewards totaling $101,951.63 based on their academic growth and enrollment in the 2003-04 accountability cycle.

 

Superintendent Gillespie and the Board recognized and presented flags and financial rewards to principals of the following Vernon Parish Schools achieving Recognized or Exemplary Academic Growth.

In other business, Superintendent Gillespie recognized Mr. John Burns, former Vernon Parish superintendent, who was in attendance. Mr. Burns expressed his pride in Vernon Parish Schools and in the progress and accomplishments in education they continue to realize. 

 

There being no further business, on motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
