THE PARISH SCHOOL BOARD OF VERNON PARISH LOUISIANA CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION, NOVEMBER 13, 2003, AT, 5:00 P.M., AT 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LA. PRESIDENT FARRIS CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

The meeting was opened in prayer by Randy Martin.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by B.R. Harvey
On motion of B.R. Harvey, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to approve and dispense with the reading of the minutes of November 6, 2003
On recommendation of Superintendent Gillespie and on motion of Randy Martin, seconded by Ricky Reese, the Board to approve the attached resignations.

On recommendation of Superintendent Gillespie and on motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by Mel Harris, the Board voted to approve the attached sabbatical leave request.

On motion of Philip Gunn, seconded by the Board, the list of Head Start Policy Council members was approved.
On motion of B.R. Harvey, seconded by Philip Gunn, the Board voted to enter into executive session for a period of 15 minutes to discuss a personnel matter. The time was recorded at 5:05 p.m.
On motion of Philip Gunn, seconded by B.R. Harvey, the Board voted to come out of executive session and resume order. The time was recorded at 5:12 p.m.
On recommendation of Superintendent Gillespie and on motion of Philip Gunn, seconded by Mark Smith, the Board voted to terminate Princess Dorsey, cafeteria employee at East Leesville Elementary School.
In other business, Colonel Rocke announced that a Fort Polk tour for board members is planned for December 4th immediately following the board meeting.
In further business, Mrs. Westerchil announced that a District 1/6 Committee meeting will be held at 9:00 a.m. on December 4th, preceding the board meeting, and that a meeting of the Curriculum Committee will be scheduled for January, 2004.
On motion of Ricky Reese, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their heartfelt condolences to the family of Mrs. Opal Morrison, of Anacoco, who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Morrison was the grandmother of Mr. Mike Goins, teacher at Anacoco High School and the stepmother of Mrs. Betty Jeane, secretary at Anacoco High School; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Morrison was a lifelong resident of Anacoco and she will be sadly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the Board requests that a copy of this memorial resolution to Mr. Goins and Mrs. Jeane and their family at this time of sorrow.
On motion of Mel Harris, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their sincere condolences to the family of Mr. James Hicks, Jr., of Hornbeck, who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Hicks was the brother-in-law of Mrs. Bonnie Hicks, teacher at West Leesville Preschool and the uncle of Mrs. Susie Neubert, teacher at Leesville High School; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Hicks was a native of Leesville and a lifelong resident of the area and he will be sadly missed by his family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the Board does hereby adopt this memorial resolution and requests a copy be sent to Travis and Bonnie Hicks, Mrs. Neubert and their family at this time of bereavement.
On motion of Ricky Reese, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to express their heartfelt condolences to the family of Mrs. Elsie Chance, of Hornbeck, who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Chance was the mother of Mrs. Betty Green, retired office aide at Hornbeck High School; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Chance was a longtime resident of Hornbeck and she will be remembered and sadly missed by her family and friends; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to Mrs. Green and her family at this time of sorrow.
On motion of Willis Farris, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
WHEREAS, the Vernon Parish School Board wishes to express its condolences to Mrs. Leanne Jeane, teacher at Evans High School, in the recent death of her father, Mr. Kenneth Midkiff, of the Knight Community; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Midkiff was a native and lifelong resident of the Knight area and a retired teacher at Evans High School. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends, and former students whose lives he touched; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to Mr. Midkiff's wife, Mrs. Eula Mae Midkiff, and Mrs. Leanne Jeane at this time of sorrow.
On motion of B.R. Harvey, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to advertise for bids for the Pitkin School renovation projects.
On motion of Philip Gunn, seconded by Mark Smith, the Board voted to authorize the president and secretary to pay the claims.
There being no further business, on motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
