THE PARISH SCHOOL BOARD OF VERNON PARISH LOUISIANA CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION, DECEMBER 12, 2000, AT 5:00 P.M., AT 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LA. PRESIDENT WEST CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Richard Schwartz, Secretary of the Board.

 

The meeting was opened in prayer by Philip Gunn.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Murphy O'Banion.

 

On motion of Philip Gunn, seconded by W.W. Parker, the Board voted to approve and dispense with the reading of the minutes of December 7, 2000.

 

On recommendation of Superintendent Schwartz and on motion of Ted Paris, seconded by Kim Reese, the Board voted to approve the attached list of employee resignations.

On recommendation of Superintendent Schwartz and on motion of Gene Haymon, seconded by Betty Westerchil, the Board voted to approve the attached requests to rescind the medical sabbatical leave of two employees.

On recommendation of Superintendent Schwartz and on motion of Betty Westerchil,  seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to approve the attached employee transfer.

On recommendation of Superintendent Schwartz and on motion of W.W. Parker, seconded by Willis Farris, the Board voted to approve the new employee on the attached list.

On motion of W.W. Parker, seconded by Willis Farris, the Board voted to advertise for bids to sell used industrial arts equipment at Hornbeck High School.

 

On motion of Gene Haymon, seconded by Philip Gunn, the Board voted to advertise for bids to sell unrepairable copiers at Vernon Middle School.

 

On motion of Mark Smith, seconded by Betty Westerchil, the Board voted to advertise for bids to sell out-dated and unrepairable library equipment at Vernon Middle School.

 

On motion of B.R. Harvey, seconded by Murphy O'Banion, the Board voted to advertise for bids to sell a five bedroom house and four acres of land adjacent to Pitkin High School.

 

On motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by Jane Holton, the Board voted to approve the board meeting dates for 2001.

 

On motion of Willis Farris, seconded by Murphy O'Banion, the Board voted to name B.R. Harvey as board president for 2001.

 

On motion of B.R. Harvey, seconded by Willis Farris, the Board voted to name Kim Reese as board vice-president for 2001.

 

Superintendent Schwartz presented a plaque of appreciation from the Board to Linda West, out-going board president, for her dedicated service during her 2000 board presidency.

 

On motion of Willis Farris, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:

 

R E S O L U T I O N

 

WHEREAS, the Vernon Parish School Board wishes to express its heartfelt sympathies to the family of Mrs. Artie Shankle Morrison, of Burr Ferry, who recently passed away; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Morrison was the mother of Mrs. Elaine Kennedy, aide at Evans School;

WHEREAS, Mrs. Morrison was a lifetime resident of Vernon Parish and she will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the Board requests that a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to Mrs. Kennedy and her family at this time of sorrow.

 

There being no further business, on motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
