THE PARISH SCHOOL BOARD OF VERNON PARISH LOUISIANA CONVENED IN SPECIAL SESSION, JUNE 20, 2000, AT, 10:00 A.M., AT 201 BELVIEW ROAD, LEESVILLE, LA. PRESIDENT WEST CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT:

There was also present Richard Schwartz, Secretary of the Board.
The meeting was opened in prayer by Philip Gunn.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Betty Westerchil.
On motion of Murphy O'Banion, seconded by Ted Paris, the Board voted to approve and dispense with the reading of the minutes of June 6, 2000.
A motion was made by A.C. Dowden to approve the transfer of Billy Culbreath from principal at Simpson High School to principal at Hornbeck High School. While the motion was still on the table, W.W. Parker made a substitute motion, seconded by Willis Farris, to address this item after item 10 on the agenda. A roll call vote was taken with results as follows:

By a vote of 9-6 the motion passed.
On motion of A.C. Dowden, seconded by Gene Haymon, the Board voted to address items 4 and 5 after item 9.
On recommendation of Superintendent Schwartz and on motion of C.A. Hughes, seconded by Ted Paris, the Board voted to name Joan Simmons principal at West Leesville Elementary School.
On recommendation of Superintendent Schwartz and on motion of W.W. Parker, seconded by Murphy O=Banion, the Board voted to name Joey Whiddon as assistant principal at Hornbeck High School.
On recommendation of Superintendent Schwartz and on motion of Murphy O'Banion, seconded by Willis Farris, the Board voted to name David Wentzel as assistant principal at Pickering High School.
On motion of C.A. Hughes, seconded by Jane Holton, the Board voted to advertise for an assistant principal at South Polk Elementary School to be named July 6, 2000.
On motion of Gene Haymon, seconded by Ted Paris, the Board voted to move time of the July 6, 2000 District 1/6 Committee meeting from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m.
Motion was made by Betty Westerchil, seconded by Gene Haymon, to postpone naming assistant principals at Vernon Middle School and West Leesville Elementary School until July 6th. The results of a roll call vote follows:

On recommendation of Superintendent Schwartz and on motion of Philip Gunn, seconded by C.A. Hughes, the Board voted by roll call to name Kevin Dowdle as assistant principal at Vernon Middle School. The result of the vote follows:

By a vote of 12B3, Kevin Dowdle was named assistant principal at Vernon Middle School.
On recommendation of Superintendent Schwartz and on motion of A.C. Dowden, seconded by Murphy O=Banion, the Board voted to name central office employees for 2000-2001.
On recommendation of Superintendent Schwartz and on motion of Mark Smith seconded by Willis Farris, the Board voted to name school administrators for 200-2001.

On recommendation of Superintendent Schwartz and on motion of Ted Paris, seconded by Mark Smith the Board, by roll call vote, named Tamara Krenek assistant principal at West Leesville Elementary School. Results of the roll call vote follows:

By a vote of 12-2, with 1 abstaining, Tamara Krenek was named assistant principal at West Leesville Elementary School.
In other business, on motion of Gene Haymon, seconded by Willis Farris, the Board voted to grant all school employees a holiday on Monday, July 3rd, to coincide a holiday proclaimed for state employees.
On motion of Philip Gunn, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board were deeply saddened by the recent death of Mrs. Viola Patrick, sister of Mr. Charles Thomas, cafeteria employee at West Leesville Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Patrick was a lifelong resident of Leesville and a 1999 graduate of Leesville High School and she will be sadly missed by her family, former classmates, and friends;
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the Board does adopt this memorial resolution and requests that a copy be sent to Mr. Charles Thomas and his family at this time of bereavement.

On motion of Philip Gunn, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the Vernon Parish School Board wishes to express its heartfelt sympathies to Mr. Charles Thomas, cafeteria employee at West Leesville Elementary School, in the recent death of his mother, Mrs. Dorothy Thomas; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Thomas was a longtime resident of Leesville and she will be sadly missed by her family and friends;
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the Board adopts this memorial resolution and request that a copy be sent to Mr. Charles Thomas and his entire family at this time of bereavement.
On motion of B.R. Harvey, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their heartfelt sympathies to Mrs. Barbara Stanley, aide at West Leesville Elementary School, in the recent death of her brother, Mr. Robert D. Mock; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mock was a native of Vernon Parish and a graduate of Leesville High School and he will be sadly missed by his family and friends;
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the Board does, hereby, adopt this memorial resolution and request that a copy be sent to Mrs. Stanley and her family at this time of sorrow.
On motion of Willis Farris, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution:
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their deepest sympathies to the family of Mr. Donald Midkiff, of Leesville, who recently passed away; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Midkiff was the brother of Mr. Reid Midkiff, retired principal at Pickering Elementary School, and he was a great supporter of this school system;
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the Board requests that a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to Mr. Reid Midkiff and his family at this time of sorrow.
There being no further business, on motion Gaye McKee, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
